SERVING CALIFORNIA FOR OVER 15 YEARS

Ruggies Restaurant may be the San Ramon real-life version of the classic television series "Cheers". Breakfast and lunch regulars know each others names. Some customers eat at the restaurant more than they do at home according to Jill Rebiejo, who began working at Ruggies when it opened in 1984. Throughout the years, Rebiejo

Come!! Join Our Family

has watched her customers' lives flourish and change. "I've seen people who are single, come in with a girlfriend or boyfriend, then get married, and now their kids are taller than me" she says. Many of the customers have become like family to her. In one instance she even had to perform the Heimlich Manuever to save a customer's life.

Popular breakfast items are eggs benedict, pancakes, "nothing and eggs," (two eggs, potatoes and toast) and killer omelets. If you're a health food fan, or what Ruggies's staff calls "egg white, no oil people", you can order an omelet made of just egg whites. Lunch items include a grilled crab sandwich, burgers, and other delicious sandwiches as well as salads. And there's a children's menu with much of the same food as the regular menu, but at smaller portions and prices.

The above was excerpted and paraphrased from an article in the Contra Costa Times by Miriam Schaffer. Open Monday through Friday, 6a.m. to 3 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Sunday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Breakfast, lunch and catering. A unique, family-oriented dining experience.
